Flashback to 2013 and Norma Jean had just come out with their most monumental album, Wrongdoers. It sat there for years tantalizing us, making us want more. Today, we finally can stop longing for the sweet taste of more Norma Jean as they have released a song, “1,000,000 Watts,” exclusively to NPR. “1,000,000 Watts” is to be featured on their upcoming album POLAR SIMILAR that will be released on September 9th via Solid State Records.

“1,000,000 Watts” shows extreme promise as it twangs and breaks down with the likes of southern rockers He Is Legend, but also has its roots heavy in metal with a melody and atmosphere similar to that of Torche. But, Norma Jean is one of a kind with their clean yet dirty sound that wades into your ear with its sinful gracefulness. “1,000,000 Watts” most appealing quality is the fact that it is almost like a scene of beautiful chaos translated into auditory form. It’s so immense and brutal, but it’s also restricted and calm; very reminiscent of Norma Jean’s previous work. But, there is also growth involved with the track, especially in terms of Cory’s vocals–He alters his vocals to obtain different effects further adding to the atmosphere of the song. All in all, it’s a good omen of what’s to come in the near future.
