On its 23rd run, Vans Warped Tour is stronger than ever, featuring the most eclectic group of artists and bands that has been announced in years. Sunday, they transformed the Pepsi Center in Denver into yet another epic stage, where some of the best in metal, punk, hardcore, and rock would give a series of back to back performances that created an all-around killer day of music.

Last year, we were excited when names such as Sum 41, Every Time I Die, and Atreyu headed out on the road for the Summer. Then this year happened with Warped Tour announcing the heaviest all around line-up in quite some time with bands like Gwar, Carnifex, The Acacia Strain, After The Burial, Municipal Waste, and Hatebreed taking Warped Tour by storm. The Mutant stages, in particular, really broke it down this year with sets that were just as brutal as they were stirring. Silverstein also took the stage, filling everyone with nostalgia, and in turn, causing a frenzy. Their set, along with Gwar and Carnifex’s, proved to be some of the top performances of the day due to their unstoppable energy and uniquely profound presences.

While it was funny to watch unsuspecting concert goers confusingly stare at the events unfolding upon Gwar’s stage or the insanity that ensued during sets like Hatebreed’s, the other extremities of the park were full of just as much energy. The Full Sail stage was busy showcasing some insanely talented breakthrough bands like Creeper, Knocked Loose, and Movements, who were intent on making the most of every moment with their fans. The Hard Rock stage, on the other hand, featured some bands who have been around for years and are still killing it, like Strung Out and Municipal Waste. The Journey’s stages featured the best of both worlds by bringing back bands like CKY and Hawthorne Heights, but also showcased newer sensations like Hands Like Houses and Our Last Night. Everywhere you looked, Warped Tour was in full swing, ramping up the ante as each band went on. As we neared the end of the day, Blessthefall and Municipal Waste closed things down in the best way imaginable with explosive sets that sent off the Denver date with a bang.

Warped Tour, as always, proves to be more than just your everyday alternative music festival; It’s a place to escape, and most importantly, a place where you feel like you belong. Amongst some of the top artists in metal, punk, hardcore, and rock, it’s hard not to get lost in the music and the moment. Along with spending time with our favorite bands, we formed many new, unforgettable memories this year.
